The fall of the Beacons
Long ago the realm was held together by a ring of Beacons, ancient crystal spires that anchored the gods to the land. One by one they went dark.
With the Beacons gone, a creeping Blight began spreading inward from the edges of the world. It twists the creatures it touches and drives the goblin tribes into the settled lands. With their hold on the realm slipping, the gods did the one thing they still could: they summoned a hero from beyond.
You wake at the first shrine in Hearthstead, the last place where the light still holds. While a shrine still stands, you cannot truly die. Each ring of the realm has its own dark Beacon and whatever guards it. Relight one and the Blight is pushed back, the shrines nearby are restored, and the land grows a little safer.
The five gods
The gods speak through their shrines. In time you'll be able to pledge yourself to one of them, separately from your class, and grow your devotion through the deeds they value.
Solenne
Sun and hearth
Keeper of warmth. Her followers heal by firelight and in daylight.
Varrak
Forge and stone
The smith-god. He favours miners and makers, and the armour they forge.
Myrra
Wilds and beasts
Mother of the green places. Beasts grow calm around those she blesses.
Nyx'thal
Moon and shadow
Patron of the unseen. Strongest at night, when the Blight is too.
Aeloris
Sky and storm
Lord of wind and lightning. Gliders and storm-callers pray to him.
